Create a Tailored Garment to fit into your Capsule Wardrobe

A Tailored garment has more processes and requires a hand finish.

Project Overview

From your capsule collection of garments you will have included one garment that needs to be tailored.

A tailored garment is one that is more structured and needs to be precisely fitted to the body. You are not expected to draft the pattern for this garment. You can choose a commercial pattern, as in this project it is more about the sewing processes and finish required.

You will need to include a selection of advanced sewing techniques within your garment.

For example:

  • Pockets – a welt pocket, jetted pocket, in-seam pocket or bluff pocket
  • Openings and Closures – buttons and buttonholes, Fly zip, decorative zip, placket opening.
  • Hand sewing – hand sewn hem or other form of hand finishing
  • Collars  – 2 piece shirt collar, collar and rever, shawl collar
  • Sleeves – set in sleeve or raglan sleeve,
  • Waistband with belt loops
  • Lining – this can be in jacket, trousers, skirt or dress

Your chosen tailored garment will need to include pockets, an opening of some kind and to be hand finished.

You can choose to add other sewing processes like a collar or sleeves if the pattern requires it.
