You can work entirely on a normal sewing machine and get good results when working with knit fabrics, but here are a few things you will need to adjust. Try and use a walking foot instead of your usual one or if you have a top set of dog teeth on your machine, activate them so they will be able to grip the top layer of fabric as you sew.
Also make sure you have the correct needle for the fabric you are working with. Ballpoint or stretch needles will prevent holes and ladders appearing in your fabric as you sew. You may need to practice and experiment a bit to see which type of needles your fabric and machine prefer.
Once you have a good result record your settings with your fabric sample and then you will have that for future projects.
