To make the first row of this section, take two light coloured 4 ½ inch x 2 ½ inch strips facing up and place two dark coloured 2 ½ inch squares on top face down onto the inner corners. Draw a diagonal line across the squares as shown.
Sew along the diagonal lines and trim away the excess fabric.
Press the seam to the dark side. Sew the short side together and press the seam open
To make the second row of this section, take one light coloured 4 ½ inch x 2 ½ inch strip facing up and place two of your HST’s either side, making sure that the dark triangle sections look like the image.
Flip the HST’s over and pin and sew to the short sides.
Press the seam to one side.
Place the two sections together and sew them together along the long edge, press the seam to one side.
Your block should measure 8 ½ x 4 ½ inches
Repeat the outer section instructions 3 more times so you have 4 blocks.
Sew the 4 ½ inch squares to either side of the top and bottom blocks.
