Pair the light squares with the coloured squares right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line on the back of the lighter of the two fabrics from corner to opposite corner.
Sew seams ¼ inch either side of the line.
Cut in half along the drawn line.
Press open and trim to 4 ½ inch squares.
Line up the squares as in the picture, sew the squares together to form the rows, press the seams open.
